Biography
Julia Dolores is an artist whose work explores memory, place, and the emotional landscapes they form. Raised in southeastern Ohio within a close, matriarchal family, Julia draws inspiration from her personal history as a twin and one of three siblings raised by their mother, supported by the women around them. This informs her ongoing investigation into fragmented memories, identity, and the body
Her paintings often reconstruct place-based memories that exist in partial clarity, using layered surfaces, gestural abstraction, and collage to capture the nonlinear, shifting nature of how we remember. Julia’s approach moves fluidly between observation and abstraction, breaking down scenes into gestures, color fields, and textured layers
Julia graduated from Ohio University in 2026 with a BFA in Painting & Drawing. Over her four years of study, she expanded her practice through formal training and hands-on experience, exhibiting in shows such as the Undergraduate Juried Exhibition (2022, 2024), Art Ambassadors Autumn Salon (2022–2024), Plein Air Pop-Up at Ohio University Art Galleries (2025), and Between Forgetting & Becoming BFA Thesis Exhibition, RTEC Gallery 102 (2026).
Her work was recognized with the Edwin L. & Ruth Kennedy Distinguished Professor Scholarship twice (2024 and 2025), awarded by Professor John Sabraw, as well as funding from the Provost Undergraduate Research Fund to support her thesis exhibition in Spring 2026.
